English Definition
In development finance institutions, the person who carries a transaction through its full life cycle from sourcing to monitoring and acts as the project's owner in the institution's internal decision processes. The critical tension of the role is the expectation that the same officer both champions the transaction and reports its risks honestly, a dual role that can produce a tendency to soften adverse signals as emotional and professional investment in the project grows. Good institutional design counterbalances this with an independent risk and evaluation stream, since letting the originator also grade the outcome weakens the independence the structure depends on.
