English Definition
In commodity and forward markets, the term denotes the specific date on which physical delivery or cash settlement of a transaction falls due, fixing the prompt date on which a contract matures. Because it bridges spot and forward, the financing cost of a position and its delivery logistics are planned around this date. Its relevance to project finance is that, in projects matching fuel or raw-material supply to physical delivery, the working-capital requirement is tied directly to the prompt calendar; a mismatch between delivery date and debt-service date creates a hidden bridging need in a cash flow that otherwise appears sound.
