Bir ürünün, sistemin ya da teknolojinin ticari ölçeğe geçmeden önce, tasarım varsayımlarını fiziksel olarak sınamak amacıyla ilk çalışan örneğinin üretildiği geliştirme aşamasıdır. Bu evre, teknoloji riskinin en yoğunlaştığı ve nakit akışının henüz bulunmadığı dönemdir; dolayısıyla klasik borç finansmanına en kapalı, öz sermaye ve hibe finansmanına en bağımlı safhadır. Sermaye-yoğun projelerde prototip performansının doğrulanması çoğu kez finansal kapanışın örtük bir ön koşuludur; nitekim kredi verenler, ilk-türden (first-of-a-kind) teknoloji taşıyan projelerde bağımsız mühendislik raporuyla kanıtlanmış bir prototip başarısı görmeden inşa kredisini taahhüt etmekten kaçınır.
English Definition
The development stage in which the first working example of a product, system, or technology is built to test design assumptions physically before commercial scale-up. This is the phase where technology risk is most concentrated and cash flow is still absent, which makes it the stage least accessible to conventional debt and most dependent on equity and grant funding. In capital-intensive projects, validation of prototype performance is often an implicit precondition to financial close; lenders confronting first-of-a-kind technology typically decline to commit a construction loan without a prototype success evidenced by an independent engineer's report.
