English Definition
A formally announced and minuted meeting at which the views of affected communities, civil society and interested parties are gathered on the environmental and social effects of an investment project. Under the standards of development finance institutions and lenders adhering to the Equator Principles, such consultation is a precondition for the validity of the environmental and social impact assessment, and a defectively conducted process directly delays financial close. Experienced developers place these meetings on the critical path of the permitting and financing timetable, since a later allegation of inadequate participation can suspend a permit through the courts and thereby halt debt drawdown.
