English Definition
A financial instrument that meets a regulatory or contractual regime's eligibility conditions and thereby earns the status that regime confers; it overlaps substantially with a qualified instrument, though the emphasis shifts toward the condition of maintaining ongoing eligibility. Continuity matters, since an instrument's initial eligibility does not prevent it from losing that status as its tenor shortens or its ranking changes. In project finance this gradual erosion of eligibility can force the capital structure to be rebalanced over time.
