English Definition
Highly liquid financial assets that are not themselves a means of payment but can be converted into cash quickly and at low cost, and are therefore included in the broad definition of the money supply; time deposits, money-market funds and short-dated treasury bills are typical examples. Movements in the volume of quasi-money signal the economy's liquidity preference; in project finance placing reserve-account balances in quasi-money instruments must earn a yield on idle cash while preserving the immediate liquidity access that lenders require.
