The official reference price for a given security, commodity or currency used during the day, or the announced price for that day, which serves as an anchor for pricing and settlement in contracts. Defining precisely which day's and which moment's quotation governs is decisive in forestalling later disputes, since in project finance contracts carrying indexed revenue or a fuel-cost adjustment, the source of the daily reference quotation taken and its cut-off time can shift the economic value shared between the parties directly.
