English Definition
The price of a security, good or currency announced in a market at a given moment, which forms a reference for transacting but may not equal the price actually achieved. The gap between quoted and realised price arises from volume and timing, since in project finance liquidating a large position at once breaks the liquidity illusion the quoted price suggests and generates a market-impact cost. On large block sales the average price achieved therefore frequently falls short of the quoted price shown on screen.
