Bir kuruluşun ya da projenin özkaynağının, kullanımda olan kredilerin bakiyesine oranıdır; kaldıraç düzeyinin ve zarar emme kapasitesinin doğrudan bir göstergesidir. Proje finansmanında bu oran, sponsorun projeye bağladığı öz riski (skin in the game) yansıtır; özkaynak katkısı ne kadar yüksekse, kredi verenin ilk kayıplara karşı tamponu o kadar kalındır. Kredi verenlerin dayattığı asgari özkaynak oranı, çoğu zaman projenin risk profiliyle değil, ilgili sektöre ve jurisdiction'a özgü tarihsel kayıp deneyimiyle kalibre edilir.
English Definition
The ratio of an institution's or project's equity to the balance of loans outstanding, a direct indicator of leverage and loss-absorbing capacity. In project finance this ratio reflects the sponsor's own exposure to the project, its skin in the game; the higher the equity contribution, the thicker the lender's buffer against first losses. The minimum equity ratio lenders impose is often calibrated not to the project's own risk profile but to the historical loss experience specific to the relevant sector and jurisdiction.
