English Definition
An independent person appointed — by court order or under the authority of a security document — over a debtor's assets or a specific charged property, tasked with gathering, managing, or realising that asset for the benefit of creditors. The role differs from a liquidator's in that it is often confined to realising particular collateral rather than winding up the company as a whole. In project finance this is the figure in whom a lender's step-in and enforcement rights become concrete, and whose appointment marks the threshold at which the sponsor's control effectively ends.
