English Definition
The party entitled to take delivery of goods at destination under a contract of carriage, holding — as lawful holder of the bill of lading or transport document — the right to demand delivery from the carrier. Its identity determines the moment risk and title pass to it, and therefore who may bring claims for damage or delay. In capital-intensive projects, whether the receiver of major equipment shipments is the EPC contractor or the project company, read together with the chosen Incoterm, governs where demurrage and insurance exposure accumulates.
