Bir ekonomide üretim, istihdam ve harcamanın geniş tabanlı ve sürekli biçimde daraldığı, geleneksel olarak art arda iki çeyreklik reel milli gelir düşüşüyle işaretlenen konjonktür evresidir. Ancak bu iki çeyrek kuralı pratikte gecikmeli bir teşhistir; kredi spreadlerinin genişlemesi ve talebin yumuşaması çoğu kez rakamlara yansımadan önce hissedilir. Sermaye-yoğun projelerde resesyon, talep tarafından çok, refinansman penceresinin kapanması ve sponsor öz kaynak maliyetinin yükselmesi kanalıyla vurur; uzun vadeli off-take sözleşmesi olan projeler bu döngüde göreli olarak korunur.
English Definition
A phase of the business cycle in which output, employment, and spending contract on a broad and sustained basis, conventionally marked by two consecutive quarters of declining real national income. That two-quarter rule is, in practice, a lagging diagnosis; widening credit spreads and softening demand are usually felt before they show in the figures. In capital-intensive projects, a recession bites less through demand than through the closing of the refinancing window and the rising cost of sponsor equity, and projects anchored by long-term off-take contracts are comparatively insulated through the cycle.
