English Definition
The termination of an employee's engagement because the role has ceased to exist or the workforce requirement has fallen — a structural ground distinct from performance-based dismissal. The transition of capital-intensive projects from construction to operation typically generates large-scale redundancy, and the associated compensation liability is a quiet line in the project's transition cost. In acquisitions, whether that liability falls to the buyer or the seller is frequently negotiated separately from, and as hard as, the purchase price itself, because it can materially reshape the net economics of the deal.
