English Definition
The repair, renewal, or modernization of an existing plant, infrastructure, or asset to extend its operating life and restore its performance, forming the core of brownfield investment. In project finance rehabilitation projects carry a different risk profile from greenfield; construction risk is lower but uncertainty about the asset's existing condition is higher, so the technical adviser's condition survey sits at the center of the financing decision. The emergence of latent structural defects during rehabilitation is the most frequently disputed source of cost overrun under fixed-price EPC contracts.
