English Definition
A transfer of funds from one party to another, frequently across borders, and the sum that is the subject of that transfer. In project finance the free flow of remittances, whether dividends, debt service, or supplier payments, is a critical assumption, and convertibility and transferability risk, the danger that local currency cannot be exchanged into hard currency and sent abroad, ranks among the fundamental political-risk items of any cross-border project. It is commonly mitigated through offshore accounts, hard-currency revenue capture, and cover from multilateral or export-credit guarantors.
