English Definition
An inflation gauge measuring the change in the price level of a representative basket of goods and services consumed by households; known in the United Kingdom as the RPI and differing from the consumer price index in its housing-cost coverage and calculation method. Its real weight in project finance lies in serving as the reference for index-linked debt and for the price-escalation formulas in long-term contracts; tying a PPA or concession revenue to the RPI transfers inflation risk to the offtaker and sharpens the lender's visibility on real returns.
