Bir reasürörün üstlendiği riskin bir kısmını, kendi kapasitesini korumak amacıyla başka bir reasüröre (retrosesyoner) devretmesi işlemidir; böylece risk zincirin bir halkasından bir sonrakine aktarılır. Yapı, tekil bir felaket olayının tüm sektörü aynı anda vurmasını önleyecek biçimde riski dağıtır. Sermaye-yoğun projelerde bu katman görünmez ama belirleyicidir; zira inşaat all-risk ya da işletme kesinti poliçelerinin arkasındaki kapasite nihayetinde retrosesyon piyasasının iştahına bağlıdır ve bu iştah daraldığında proje sigorta primleri sözleşme imzalanmadan önce sertleşir.
English Definition
The transaction by which a reinsurer transfers part of the risk it has assumed to another reinsurer, the retrocessionaire, in order to preserve its own capacity, passing exposure from one link of the chain to the next. The structure disperses risk so that a single catastrophic event does not strike the whole sector at once. On capital-intensive projects this layer is invisible yet decisive, since the capacity behind construction all-risk or business-interruption cover ultimately depends on retrocession appetite, and project premiums harden well before signing when that appetite contracts.
