Bir üretim sürecinde tüm girdilerin aynı oranda artırılması durumunda çıktının hangi oranda değiştiğini betimleyen ve artan, sabit ya da azalan olarak sınıflandırılan iktisadi kavramdır. Artan ölçeğe göre getiri, birim maliyetin kapasiteyle birlikte düşmesi anlamına gelir. Sermaye-yoğun altyapıda bu mekanik yatırım kararının merkezindedir; zira bir santralin ya da veri merkezinin megawatt ya da rack başına maliyeti tesis büyüdükçe belirgin biçimde gerilediğinden, geliştirici çoğu kez talebin ötesinde bir ilk faz kurarak birim ekonomiyi baştan lehine çevirmeyi tercih eder.
English Definition
An economic concept describing how output changes when all inputs are increased in the same proportion, classified as increasing, constant, or decreasing. Increasing returns to scale mean unit cost falls as capacity grows. In capital-intensive infrastructure this mechanic sits at the centre of the investment decision, since the cost per megawatt or per rack of a plant or data centre declines markedly as the facility enlarges, so a developer often builds a first phase beyond current demand in order to tilt the unit economics in its favour from the outset.
