English Definition
In international trade, the preferential customs treatment a developing country grants to imports from a developed one, running the usual direction of a preference regime, from developed to developing, in reverse. Such arrangements frequently arise from historical trade ties or agreements conditioned on reciprocity. In project procurement the detail can affect equipment sourcing, since reverse preferences lower the customs cost of imports from a particular origin, turning the supplier-geography decision from one of price and quality alone into a matter of tax optimisation shaped by rules of origin.
