English Definition
A trust that the settlor may unilaterally amend, terminate, or reclaim assets from during their lifetime. This revocability prevents the trust assets from being fully separated, in law, from the settlor's estate, so it affords no protection against creditors or a bankruptcy estate. This is precisely why security trusts in project and structured finance are constructed as irrevocable and bankruptcy-remote, since lenders will not accord a revocable arrangement the status of reliable collateral.
