Bir akreditifin amir banka tarafından, geçerliliğine son verilerek ödeme taahhüdünün ortadan kaldırılması eylemidir. Bu ancak akreditif cayılabilir nitelikte düzenlenmişse tek taraflı yapılabilir; cayılamaz akreditifte iptal, lehtarın ve varsa teyit bankasının açık muvafakatini gerektirir. Proje tedarikinde satıcılar iptal riskini fiyatladığından, ödeme güvencesini cayılamaz ve teyitli bir yapıya bağlamak, ekipman siparişinin serbest bırakılmasının ön koşulu hâline gelir.
English Definition
The act of terminating a letter of credit and thereby extinguishing the issuing bank's payment undertaking. This can be done unilaterally only where the credit was issued as revocable; under an irrevocable credit, cancellation requires the express consent of the beneficiary and any confirming bank. In project procurement suppliers price the risk of revocation, which is why anchoring payment assurance in an irrevocable and confirmed structure becomes a precondition for releasing the equipment order.
