English Definition
The characterization that describes, as a whole, the type, magnitude and distribution over time of the risks an investment or project carries — not a single metric but a multidimensional portrait. The most consequential observation in project finance is that the risk profile changes fundamentally across the life of the project; completion and cost-overrun risk dominate during construction, while after commercial operation the profile shifts toward demand, operating and price risk. The layering of the capital structure and the timing of the refinancing window are designed precisely to track this shift in profile.
