English Definition
The official currency of the Russian Federation, carrying the ISO code RUB and divided into 100 kopeks. Its high sensitivity to commodity prices and to capital controls makes it a low-predictability currency in which to carry project revenue; under sanctions regimes in particular, transfer and convertibility risk becomes a problem that overtakes exchange-rate risk. In financings resting on rouble-denominated cash flow, creditors typically require collection in hard currency through offshore accounts together with robust transfer undertakings, pricing the sovereign's capacity to trap cash rather than merely its currency's volatility.
