English Definition
A supplementary statistical account built to measure a specific domain — tourism, the environment, health — in detail without disturbing the core framework of the national accounts; its purpose is to gather in a coherent frame an activity that sits scattered across the main accounts. In project finance, and particularly in public-private partnership projects, satellite accounts provide a reference for measuring a sector's economic size and the impact of public contribution; environmental satellite accounts, for instance, form the data base used to turn the macro-level contribution of green-infrastructure investment into a feasibility rationale.
