English Definition
Seedcorn capital is the British-English equivalent of seed capital, denoting the initial equity provided to develop a concept at a venture's earliest and riskiest stage. Derived from the agricultural image of grain set aside for the next harvest, the term carries the idea that the capital is reserved not to be consumed but to germinate future value. In project finance this early capital, funding an asset not yet bankable, is priced outside standard risk-return models; the return expectation is built on the development portfolio as a whole rather than the single project.
