Bir faaliyet bölümünün gelirini üretmek için katlanılan ve o bölüme doğrudan ya da makul dağıtım esasıyla atfedilen giderdir. Bölüm bazlı gider raporlaması konsolide rakamların gizlediği maliyet yapısını görünür kıldığından proje portföylerinde belirleyicidir; özellikle merkezi genel giderlerin (overhead) bölümlere hangi anahtarla dağıtıldığı, tek tek projelerin görünen kârlılığını ciddi biçimde değiştirebilir. Kredi verenler bu dağıtım metodolojisini dikkatle inceler, zira gider tahsis anahtarının değiştirilmesi bir projenin borç servis kapasitesini kağıt üzerinde iyileştirip diğerini kötüleştirebilir.
English Definition
Segment expense is the expense incurred to generate an operating segment's revenue and attributed to it directly or on a reasonable allocation basis. Segment-level expense reporting is decisive in project portfolios because it exposes a cost structure that consolidated figures obscure; in particular, the key by which central overhead is allocated to segments can materially change the apparent profitability of individual projects. Lenders scrutinize this allocation methodology, since changing the cost-allocation key can improve one project's debt-service capacity on paper while worsening another's.
