English Definition
Segment result is the outcome found by deducting the expenses attributed to an operating segment from its revenue, showing the segment's standalone profitability and usually reflecting operating performance before financing costs and tax. In project portfolios it is the primary tool for distinguishing which asset genuinely creates value from which is merely carried. The critical subtlety is whether the segment result aligns with the ring-fenced project cash flow; an accounting segment result may look positive while cash-trap covenants in the loan agreements lock that cash at the segment level, rendering it effectively inaccessible at the holding level.
