English Definition
The party that receives the service supplied under a contract and is obliged to pay for it, standing as the counterpart to the service provider. In project finance the credit quality of the service receiver is frequently the true determinant of the revenue structure: where cash flow depends on a single receiver, that party's ability and willingness to pay effectively caps the project's credit profile. Lenders therefore examine the receiver's rating threshold, the security behind the payment mechanism, and the contractual protections against single-buyer concentration; the provider can be replaced, but the receiver that is the revenue source usually cannot.
