English Definition
Settlement of an invoice, draft or debt obligation for less than the agreed amount, whether as a deliberate instrument of dispute or a simple operational error. In project and supply-chain finance a short payment is often a quiet signal of contention: rather than opening a formal claim, the buyer effectively flags a defect in delivered goods or a disagreement over a progress certificate by deducting from the sum remitted, which then burdens the reconciliation and receivables-ageing workstreams downstream.
