English Definition
Copies of correspondence or a document forwarded to a third party without the knowledge of the principal addressee, denoting in banking and trade correspondence the confidential copies kept outside a party's awareness. In documentary-credit transactions the notion can intersect with a confirming bank's silent-confirmation practice, where the exporter obtains a second bank's payment assurance without the issuing bank's knowledge or consent, so that part of the document flow runs concealed from the parties, producing a structure sensitive in terms of authority and confidentiality.
