English Definition
The national currency of Singapore, encountered frequently in regional transactions because the city is a hub for Asian project finance and infrastructure capital. Monetary policy conducted through a managed exchange-rate band gives the Singapore dollar a relatively stable profile, which helps explain why Southeast Asian projects are often structured with debt routed through Singapore. Where project revenue arises in a local currency, however, the gap between SGD debt and that revenue still requires a hedge or a natural match.
