English Definition
A document through which an organization reports the social and environmental dimension of its activities to stakeholders alongside its financial statements, covering employee, community, supply-chain and environmental effects. It differs from an annual report in that the audience shifts from shareholder to a broad stakeholder set and the indicators are largely non-standardized. Its weight has grown in sustainability-linked financing; where the loan margin is tied to sustainability indicators, whether the social report carries independent assurance determines more than its content whether a lender will rely on it, and an unassured statement is typically not accepted as the basis for a margin reduction.
