English Definition
A quick verification test carried out on a randomly selected sample rather than the whole of a product, process or record set, generating a signal about the system's conformity without bearing the cost of a full audit. It is widely used in quality control and compliance testing. In project finance, sample-based tests provide a layer of assurance across a wide field, from supply-chain compliance to environmental monitoring parameters; the structural limit of sampling-based verification, however, is that a systematic defect may never surface in the sample when it looks low-probability and scattered, and that blind spot becomes the source of post-completion liability disputes.
