English Definition
A warehouse receipt providing that the stored goods will be delivered only to the specific person named on it, and which cannot be transferred by endorsement. Unlike a negotiable receipt, it does not circulate as a document of title, and its capacity to serve as collateral is correspondingly limited. In commodity and trade finance a lender seeking to pledge and finance the goods prefers the negotiable form, because a straight receipt, transferable only by delivery instruction, weakens the security chain.
