English Definition
The capital that an institution raises through investors' subscription commitments. The concept sits close to subscribed capital, the difference being its emphasis on the subscription process itself — the method by which the capital is gathered. In fund and development-finance structures, the gap between the total size of subscription capital and its paid-in portion determines how quickly the institution can fund the investments it has committed to, and where commitments are high but paid-in is low, the institution cannot take on new exposure without making a call — the quiet ceiling on the pace of portfolio growth.
