Bugünkü ihtiyaçları, gelecek kuşakların kendi ihtiyaçlarını karşılama kapasitesini tehlikeye atmadan gözeten kalkınma anlayışıdır; ekonomik, çevresel ve sosyal boyutları eşzamanlı dengelemeyi öngörür. Proje finansmanında bu kavram soyut bir ilke olmaktan çıkıp bağlayıcı bir koşullar setine dönüşmüştür: kalkınma finansmanı kuruluşları kredilerini çevresel-sosyal performans standartlarına bağlar, ihlal ise çekiş durdurma ve erken geri çağırma hakkı doğurur. Dolayısıyla sürdürülebilirlik, sponsor için bir itibar meselesi değil, kredi sözleşmesinin doğrudan uygulanabilir bir hükmüdür.
English Definition
An approach to development that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own, balancing economic, environmental and social dimensions at once. In project financing the concept has moved from an abstract principle to a binding set of conditions: development-finance institutions tie their loans to environmental and social performance standards, and a breach gives rise to rights of suspension and acceleration. Sustainability is thus, for the sponsor, not a reputational matter but a directly enforceable term of the credit agreement.
