The freight and shipping costs incurred by a buyer to bring purchased goods or raw materials from the supplier to the buyer's premises or warehouse. In accounting, transportation in is added to the cost of goods purchased and included in inventory valuation. It is a component of the landed cost of inventory and directly affects the cost of goods sold calculation and gross profit determination.
