English Definition
Shares of a company's own stock that have been issued and subsequently reacquired by the company through share buyback programmes or other transactions. Treasury stock is recorded as a contra-equity account on the balance sheet, reducing total shareholders' equity. Under US GAAP, treasury stock may be accounted for using the cost method or the par value method, and may be subsequently retired, reissued, or held indefinitely.
