English Definition
Costs that have been incurred but not yet charged to expense because they relate to future accounting periods. Unexpired costs appear as assets on the balance sheet, such as prepaid insurance, prepaid rent, or capitalised development expenditure. They are systematically expensed over the periods in which the related economic benefits are consumed, following the matching principle of accrual accounting.
