English Definition
Unwinding costs are the aggregate expenses incurred when closing out, reversing, or terminating a financial position or contractual arrangement prior to its scheduled conclusion. These costs may include breakage fees, mark-to-market losses, transaction costs, and legal expenses associated with the early termination. In accounting, unwinding costs are recognised as expenses in the period in which the decision to unwind is made and executed.
