English Definition
An international treaty adopted under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency establishing a liability regime for nuclear incidents. The Convention channels exclusive liability to the operator of the nuclear installation, requires operators to maintain financial security through insurance or other guarantees, and provides for the jurisdiction of courts in the state where the nuclear incident occurs. It forms part of the international nuclear liability framework that facilitates compensation for victims of nuclear accidents across borders.
