English Definition
A financial instrument giving its holder the right — not the obligation — to buy the issuer's shares at a predetermined price within a specified period. In project and growth finance, warrants are often attached to debt or mezzanine finance as an equity kicker; the lender, alongside its interest return, participates in the project's success through an option, combining downside protection with upside participation. The warrant's exercise price and dilution effect can form a hidden cost item for existing shareholders.
