English Definition
Contractual and regulatory language specifying the date from which a provision, tariff change or appointment takes effect. In project finance, separating the effective date from the signing date is critical, since interest accrual, covenant test periods and the perfection of security are frequently tied not to execution but to a distinct commencement moment fixed by the words with effect from. That distinction is a quiet but decisive clause governing which party bears which risk in the gap between closing and funding.
