English Definition
A specialist team a bank or lender establishes within its special-assets unit to manage loans that have defaulted or are at risk of doing so. The team takes the credit out of the hands of its relationship manager and shifts it onto a footing focused on recovery, restructuring, and, where necessary, enforcement of security. In project finance the workout team's involvement is a structural signal that the lender is now focused on maximising recovery rather than growing the relationship; that handover is the moment the sponsor's negotiating ground hardens.
