Vade boyunca dönemsel kupon ödemesi yapmayan, bunun yerine nominal değerinin belirgin ölçüde altında, iskontolu ihraç edilen ve getirisi tümüyle ihraç fiyatı ile itfa bedeli arasındaki farktan doğan borçlanma aracıdır. Nakit akışının vadeye kadar ertelenmesi, ihraççı açısından inşa döneminde faiz servis yükünü ortadan kaldırdığı için proje finansmanında bilhassa nakit üretmeyen dönemleri köprülemekte tercih edilir; buna karşılık yatırımcı, ödeme fiilen gerçekleşmeden vergiye tabi tahakkuk faizi (imputed interest) taşımak zorunda kalabilir.
English Definition
A debt instrument that pays no periodic coupon and is instead issued at a substantial discount to face value, with the entire return arising from the gap between issue price and redemption amount. Because it defers all cash servicing to maturity, it is favored where an issuer must bridge a period that generates no cash, as in the construction phase of a project financing. The holder, however, may owe tax on imputed interest that accrues before any payment is actually received, which typically confines the instrument to tax-advantaged or long-horizon institutional accounts.
